Civil Air Patrol Squadron 802

In the spring of 2024, the Galion City School District announced the addition of a new Civil Air Patrol program for students in grades 6-9.  Now that the new school year is underway, the district would like to introduce the details of the program to the community.  This program allows the district to put action to the words expressed in the district’s mission statement as well as incorporate the Portrait of a Tiger initiative which depicts eight personal characteristics our staff and students strive to live up to each day.

The Galion City Schools will prepare students with a rigorous education that enables them to be contributing members of the community.  We provide a supportive, social-emotional, safe, and respectful environment that cultivates learners of tomorrow.  Our guiding principle is "Believe in yourself, Achieve your greatest potential, and Succeed in all aspects of life.”

The National Civil Air Patrol Squadron 802 is based in the high school conveniently located next door to the middle school which allows students to travel between buildings.  The program will grow as students progress through grade levels. Eventually it will be available to all students in grades 6-12. This will give students more opportunities and more resources to be highly successful in the civilian and military world.

The goals are to shape a more civic-minded student body and community through volunteer service, excellence, and respect, in addition to the characteristics taught through the Portrait of a Tiger.

Programs Offered

Emergency Services

Always prepared, both in the air and on the ground, members of Civil Air Patrol perform emergency services for state and local agencies as well as the federal government as the civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force and for states/local communities as a nonprofit organization. Ever vigilant, these true patriots make a difference in their communities, not only assisting in times of disaster but also searching for the lost and protecting the homeland.

Aerospace Education

Civil Air Patrol’s awarding-winning aerospace education program promotes aerospace, aviation, and STEM-related careers with engaging, standards-based, hands-on curriculum and activities. It shapes the experiences and aspirations of youth both in and outside CAP’s cadet program.

Cadet Program

Civil Air Patrol’s cadet program transforms youth into dynamic Americans and aerospace leaders through a curriculum that focuses on leadership, aerospace, fitness, and character. As cadets participate in these four elements, they advance through a series of achievements, earning honors and increased responsibilities along the way. Many of the nation’s astronauts, pilots, engineers, and scientists first explored their careers through CAP.
