Galion, OH – The Galion City Schools Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, where several exciting updates and important actions were shared to support student success and district improvement. In addition to the regular Board meeting, the Galion Education Association and the Galion Board of Education have announced that they have reached a Tentative Agreement for a new collective bargaining agreement that will be effective from August 15, 2025, to August 14, 2028. The final elements of the new Agreement will be available after the two parties ratify.
Staff and students were recognized for their demonstration of the final Portrait of a Tiger trait, Problem Solver. Congratulations to these outstanding Problem-Solvers: KG Teacher Ashlee Cuttitta, Grade 5 Teacher Katie Guy, Grade 7 Teacher Troy Yunker, GHS counselors Amanda Courtright and Christy Zender, 1st Grade Student Addison Wolford, 5th Grade Student Aurora Fournier, 6th Grade Student Marlie Scott-Barber, and 10th Grade Student Triston Davis.
The Board also recognized two wrestlers for their outstanding accomplishments in earning All-Ohio Honors: Gradey Harding - All-Ohio Division II Wrestling 126 lbs - 2nd place and Ryder Alberty - All-Ohio Division II Wrestling 138 lbs - 7th place.
The Board gratefully accepted two generous donations:
KTKB Metal Roofing has donated materials, time, and personnel that equal the amount of $7200 to repair the roof on the Galion Middle School.
Galion VFW Post 4329 provided a $10,000 donation to support Civil Air Patrol students attending Summer Camp
Several personnel resignations and employment contracts were approved for the upcoming school year. Highlights include:
The hiring of Ms. Sara Lutz as the new Director of Student Services
The hiring of Mr. Brian Kentosh as the new Girls Varsity Soccer Coach
The Board approved the following spring field trips to wrap up the 2024-25 school year in addition to approving an ducational travel experience open to Galion students in grades 8–12, their families, and Galion City Schools staff in 2026, This 5-day, 4-night tour of Puerto Rico includes historical and environmental learning adventures, such as a city history tour, rainforest ziplining, snorkeling on a Caribbean island beach, and a visit to El Yunque National Forest. More information about this trip will be forthcoming.
April 24, 2025 – Juniors will visit Tiffin University, gaining valuable insights into post-secondary options.
May 2025 (Date TBD) – 6th graders will enjoy team-building activities at The Infield in Lexington.
May 2025 (Date TBD) – 7th graders will participate in recreational activities at Zoomers in Marion.
April 16, 2025 – 1st grade students will explore their community during a tour of Uptown Galion.
May 5 & 6, 2025 – Preschool classes will visit East of Chicago Pizza in Galion for an interactive, hands-on experience.
May 6–8, 2025 – Kindergarten through 2nd grade students will enjoy an incentive trip to Victory Lanes in Galion.
May 7, 2025 – 2nd grade students will head to the Columbus Zoo for an animal and conservation-focused adventure.
May 20, 2025 – PK through 2nd-grade students will celebrate the school year with a fun-filled day at Heise Park.
The Board unanimously passed a resolution recognizing May 5–9, 2025, as Staff Appreciation Week, in honor of the dedicated Galion City Schools staff members who serve students every day with excellence and care.
The Board held the first and final reading of a revised bylaw regarding public participation at meetings. The new bylaw states:
"All persons wishing to participate in the public participation portion of the Board meeting shall register their intent with the Superintendent by noon of the business day two (2) days in advance of the meeting, unless circumstances warrant an exception."
The next regular Board of Education meeting is scheduled for May 20 at 6:30 pm, held at the Galion Middle School Media Center.
