The Galion City School District is proud to announce that it has been recognized with the prestigious Ohio PBIS School of Distinction Award for its exemplary implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). This honor highlights the district’s commitment to creating a positive school climate and promoting student success through proactive and inclusive practices. Galion joins Mansfield City Schools as the only two districts in the area to receive this award.
This award celebrates the district’s success in creating an environment where positive behavior is taught, modeled, and celebrated, said Sara Lutz, Supervisor of Behavior Support. Ms. Lutz added that she was exceptionally pleased in receiving a perfect score on the application.
The PBIS framework focuses on teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors, providing support to students, and fostering a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment. The Ohio PBIS Network and the State Support Teams award schools and districts that demonstrate exceptional dedication to these principles.
The District Leadership Team (DLT) meets monthly to ensure consistent use of PBIS strategies, data-driven decision-making, and measurable improvements in student outcomes, are taking place among all four schools.
“This recognition is a result of the hard work and collaboration of our staff, students, and families,” said Dr. Jeff Hartmann, Superintendent. “I am very proud of our continued commitment to PBIS and in keeping with our mission to empower every student to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.”
Christi Eckert, Galion School Board Member and parent who also serves on the District Leadership Team shared, “It’s wonderful to know that our schools focus on the whole child. I am incredibly proud of the work our teams, teachers and staff put in to earn this distinction.”
The Galion City School District will continue to work closely and collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure growth and success in PBIS.
