Galion, OH – April 16, 2025 – Galion City Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Sara Lutz as the district’s new Director of Student Services, effective August 1, 2025. Ms. Lutz will succeed longtime Director of Special Education, Mrs. Cindy Parrott, retiring after more than 25 years of dedicated service to the Galion community.
Ms. Lutz currently serves as the district’s Supervisor of Behavior Support and brings a strong background in special education and behavioral analysis. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in social work, a Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, and is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). In addition, she is a certified trainer in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) and restorative practices. Her earlier experience as an intervention specialist in cross-categorical classrooms—supporting students with multiple disabilities—has equipped her with a deep understanding of student needs and inclusive practices.
“Sara has consistently demonstrated a commitment to meeting students where they are and building systems of support that help all learners thrive,” said Dr. Jeff Hartmann, Superintendent of Galion City Schools. “Her leadership and passion for equitable education make her a natural fit for this role.”
Ms. Lutz was selected following a comprehensive search process led by a committee that included Dr. Hartmann; Chief Academic Officer Melisa Watters; incoming Treasurer Shannon King; and Helen Compton, a consulting attorney and special education expert. The committee interviewed several highly qualified candidates with extensive experience in student services and educational leadership.
The district extends its deepest gratitude to Ms. Cindy Parrott for her decades of service and tireless advocacy for students with disabilities. “Cindy’s legacy is one of compassion, excellence, and unwavering commitment to student success,” said Dr. Hartmann. “She has been an integral part of our team and has laid a strong foundation for future growth.”
Please join Galion City Schools in congratulating Ms. Lutz on her new role and celebrating Mrs. Parrott’s outstanding career!
