In continuing to share how we use Restorative Practice at Galion City Schools, today we focus on restorative questions. These are questions designed to help students reflect on their feelings and the impact of their actions on others. Restorative questions encourage emotional awareness and promote constructive dialogue, especially during conflicts or misunderstandings. Some examples are: “How did that situation make you feel?” “How do you think your actions affect others?”

The Galion City School District is, once again, pleased to host the Second Harvest Food Pantry on November 25th. In preparation for the expected increased attendance and demand for turkeys, pre-registration is required. Those who have not pre-registered will be asked to wait until the end of the line. We also kindly ask that attendees refrain from arriving before 3:30 p.m. to reduce traffic during school dismissal. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We look forward to seeing you and hope this helps you and your families enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday.

Today, we honor and thank all veterans for their service and sacrifice. In our district, over 135 students have parents/guardians who are currently serving in active duty or are veterans. Additionally, many more students have siblings and extended family members who serve or have served in the military. We are deeply grateful for their dedication and the sacrifices they make for our country. Happy Veterans Day!

Veterans Day
To the Galion Community, While we are disappointed that the permanent improvement levy did not pass, we want to express our sincere gratitude to those who supported our efforts. We understand that these decisions are not easy, and we respect the will of the voters. Our priority remains the education and well-being of our students, and we will continue to work with the resources we have to provide them with a safe and positive learning environment. However, the need for facility improvements and upgrades remains, and we will have to assess how best to address these needs moving forward. As a district, we are committed to transparency and collaboration. We will seek feedback from the community to better understand the concerns that led to this outcome and continue to explore all options for ensuring our schools remain places where students can thrive. Thank you again to everyone who engaged in this process. We are grateful for your continued support of our schools and remain focused on our shared goal of providing a high-quality education for all of our students. Sincerely, Jeff Hartmann Superintendent

The Portrait of a Tiger trait for November is Self-Disciplined. Galion Tigers are self-disciplined, remaining ambitious and driven toward their goals. By engaging in positive and proactive behaviors, Galion Tigers demonstrate their ability to persevere through challenges and pursue a sound moral compass. Being self-disciplined allows our Tigers to set and achieve goals in and out of the classroom. Selected students and staff members who demonstrate this trait will be recognized at the November 19th Board of Education meeting. The meeting will be held at 6:30 in the Galion Middle School Media Center.

At Galion City Schools, we believe in using restorative practices; strategies used to foster a supportive environment in our schools. Instead of traditional disciplinary methods that often involve punishment, restorative practices emphasize building relationships, accountability, restoration, and empowerment. These practices benefit students by improving staff and student relationships, enhancing their emotional skills, and creating a better school climate. At Galion City Schools, we believe in using restorative circles, affective statements, and affective questions in our classrooms and throughout the district. In the weeks ahead we will be sharing information about restorative practices and how we are using it in our classrooms to build a strong community.

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month and today October 8th is International Dyslexia Day. In keeping in line with Ohio law, Galion teachers have been receiving specialized training to better support students with dyslexia. This is a crucial step in ensuring every child gets the help they need to succeed. There are many myths surrounding dyslexia, like the idea that it’s tied to vision problems and reversing letters. In reality, dyslexia is a common learning difference that affects the way the brain processes language. Throughout the remainder of the month, we will share more information about dyslexia to help increase awareness and help separate myths from facts.
