Issue 14 Permanent Improvement Levy

Levy Facts

A Permanent Improvement (PI) Levy produces funds that can be used utilized for items with a lifespan fiveyears or more. Items of this nature are: school buses, roofs and parking lot repair, boilers, safety upgrades, classroom furniture, technology upgrades and improvements, wireless upgrades, and more.

It is important to note that revenue from a PI Levy cannot be used for salaries, benefits, or the school district’s day-to-day operations, including curriculum.

The Galion City School campus is quickly approaching 20 years old leaving several of the items mentioned above are near the end of life; replacement is inevitable. As just one example, of our 18 bus fleet, 11 busses are 11 years old with an average of 110,000 miles.

Over 90% of the school districts in Ohio have a PI Levy.

The mission statement of Galion City Schools, established in 2017, includes a safe learning environment for all students.

The Galion City Schools will prepare students with a rigorous education that enables them to be contributing members of the community.  We provide a supportive, social-emotional, safe, and respectful environment that cultivates learners of tomorrow.

In accordance with this mission, and dedication to maintain fiscal responsibility, many conversations now revolve around how we can manage the cost of these repairs and updates so that we can continue to provide an efficient and safe learning environment for our students and staff.

We believe it is important for our families and community members to have all the facts as we approach November 5th where a Permanent Improvement Levy will be on the ballot. Continue to check this page for additional fiscal information throughout the year.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication to our school community.
