October is Dyslexia Awareness Month and today October 8th is International Dyslexia Day.
In keeping in line with Ohio law, Galion teachers have been receiving specialized training to better support students with dyslexia. This is a crucial step in ensuring every child gets the help they need to succeed.
There are many myths surrounding dyslexia, like the idea that it’s tied to vision problems and reversing letters. In reality, dyslexia is a common learning difference that affects the way the brain processes language. Throughout the remainder of the month, we will share more information about dyslexia to help increase awareness and help separate myths from facts.
We are proud to announce Fred McCumber as our final 2024 Hall of Fame inductee! This week we are thrilled to present five highly deserving Hall of Fame Inductees. Today, we start with introducing Stuart Auld, Class of 1971. Mr. Auld, a graduate of Ohio University, experienced an incredible journey that took him from working in Yellowstone National Park to becoming a renowned artist in New Orleans. He left a lasting mark on the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival as its leading artist, creating iconic stage backdrops and the "Ancestors" series of paintings. His role with the Secret Society of Sainte Anne helped shape one of Mardi Gras’ most beloved krewes.
Stuart also made waves in the film industry, working on major productions like I Am Legend and Runaway Jury. He continued to showcase his artistic talents in New York City, contributing to high-profile projects like Lady Gaga's world tour and the CBS series Elementary.
Though his career spanned across the country, Stuart never lost his love for his hometown, where he designed sets for plays that reflected his Galion roots. We celebrate his enduring creativity, legacy, and passion!
We are saddened to share that Stuart passed away in July. His nephew, Evan Auld, will attend the induction dinner to accept the honor on his behalf.
