There are some new 𝑻𝒊𝒈𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑻𝒐𝒘𝒏 at GIS this 23-24 school year 🧡 🐯 Mrs. Kayla Heimann will be transitioning from Primary Assistant Principal to our Intermediate Principal. 💙 Mrs. Heimann is looking forward to the familiar faces in 3rd and 4th-grade, and getting to know this year's 5th-graders. She will continue to bring many of the same, consistent practices the students and families are accustomed to, as well as building trusting and collaborative relationships to ensure equity and inclusion, foster creativity, and increase student achievement. 🐯 Mrs. Leigh Ann Patterson comes to Galion after 6 years as an Intervention Specialist. 💙 Mrs. Patterson is looking forward to investing in the Tiger community, fostering a safe and respectful environment, and achieving both academic and behavioral excellence. GIS 5th grade students provided the Humane Society with a check for $1200 from their spring community service project led by Ms. Prince. This money will help the Humane Society provide much needed resources to the community to prevent tick disease in our furry friends. We are so proud of our outgoing 5th graders and their diligence to make this project a success!

This is a reminder that tomorrow and Thursday students will be taking the state end of year assessment for English Language Arts. Please remind your Middle School and High Schools students to bring their iPad fully charged. In addition no cell phones, earbuds or electronic watches are permitted in the testing rooms. These items should be left in lockers or given to the school office for safe keeping.
Students are encouraged to get a good night’s sleep, eat a good breakfast, be on time and do their best. Thank you for your support in this effort. We will see you tomorrow.

GIS Families...please go to https://ybpay.lifetouch.com and use School Code: 14489923 to not miss out on your child getting their 2022-2023 yearbook. They are $20.00 with out any extras. There will be class composites for each class and candids from events and clubs in the building. Also the cover of the yearbook is actually the artwork of GIS students, so this is one of a kind and you won't want to miss having it to look back on the great memories for this school year. The deadline is March 17th!

As a district, we will continue to prioritize safety, explore the best methods, and ensure that current safety measures are accurately functioning. Tomorrow afternoon (3/15) at approximately 1:30 p.m., Galion City School District will conduct a districtwide lockdown drill to assess the newly installed Centegix CrisisAlert system. This drill will be the second district wide test of the system, which also notifies local first responders. The Galion Police Department will participate in the exercise to ensure the communication is received and dispatched properly.
Practicing the procedures and systems we have in place ensures that they work as they should. We will continue to communicate with families regarding safety practices and updates to our procedures.

The Galion City Schools will be on a 2-hour delay today, March 14, 2023. Please remember that there will be no ROAR and no breakfast this morning. Be safe, Tigers!

GIS is so proud of Lucas Prosser (5th grade) and Max Bowser (4th grade) who won their sectionals, districts, and now this weekend are traveling to compete at state. Only the top 16 wrestlers from each weight class qualified. What a huge accomplishment for both Lucas and Max! The OYWA league is for wrestlers in grades 3-6. Please send an encouraging comment to our GIS tigers. Go and Be Great Lucas and Max! We are so PROUD of you already!

Attention GIS ROAR Families!
On Thursday, February 16th, our afternoon ROAR program will be canceled due to Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences being held district-wide. Please plan on your child not being in the afternoon ROAR on February 16th. Our morning ROAR will run as scheduled on that day.

The Galion City Schools will be on a 2-hour delay, Wednesday, January 25, 2023. Please remember on delay days that breakfast will not be served and AM ROAR will not be in session. Stay safe, Tigers!

Last week our fifth graders in Ms. Prince and Ms. Showecker's classes created their own "shops" where they sold paper products to their classmates. This project was part of the economics module where they learned about economic decisions and markets.

Two of our fifth graders, Dominic Blue and Gage Robinett, were enjoying a lively game of chess during their library special. Mr. Lehman also teaches students after school on Thursdays how to play the game, so if you visit our school you may find more students during library participating in this game.

On Friday, January 6th, our 3rd grade students who earned the 2nd quarter PBIS incentive for following the 3 R's (Being Respectful, Ready, and Responsible) of our PBIS program were able to attend the Tiger's Den. They had a great time skating, hanging out with friends, and playing games. Our next quarterly incentive for 3rd quarter will be bowling.
