Galion Police Department, along with Bucyrus Police, Crawford County Sheriff's Office, and Marion County Sheriff's Office, were on campus this morning while the students of Galion High School and Galion Middle School remained in their classrooms receiving instruction during a shelter-in-place. We are so grateful for the support of our first responders in keeping our community safe!
This week, Galion Primary School is celebrating Kindness Week! Every day has a unique theme: Manners Monday, Thank You Tuesday, What I Can Do to Help Wednesday, Thoughtful Thursday, and Friendship Friday. The staff and students will participate in different kindness activities focused on making others feel loved and appreciated.
This week, the student lighthouse team will be selling kindness rocks that can be used to send someone a happy thought, keep it for themselves, or place it in the Primary Kindness Garden. Keep being kind, Tigers!
Best of luck to our wrestling team as they compete in the OHSAA dual tournament today! We are looking forward to hosting the MOAC Championship Tournament on the 18th. Go get’em, Tigers!

Today marks the 37th Annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD). Through participating in sports, girls can develop confidence, strength, and character, which are necessary tools for becoming successful learners and leaders. Our Lady Tigers have had quite a winter season so far – the girls bowling team is currently first in the MOAC and the girls swim team recently placed in multiple events at the MOAC Championship!
Congratulations to all of our Lady Tigers for an extraordinary 2022-2023 athletics season!

The Galion City Schools will be on a 2-hour delay, Wednesday, January 25, 2023. Please remember on delay days that breakfast will not be served and AM ROAR will not be in session. Stay safe, Tigers!
Our ROAR program at the Galion Intermediate School continues to use Active Floor educational games for academic support in Math and ELA (examples of educational games include grade level vocabulary words and meanings, verb tense matching games, math word problems and multiplication practices).
However, we also use Active Floor games for our weekly Playground Play sessions, especially during winter months when the weather might prevent our ROAR staff from taking our students out to our school playground. During those times, our students can still get some physical activity though Active Floor games such as Air Hockey, Soccer, Simon Says, Bike Race, and Splatter Space.
The Galion City Schools will be on a 2-hour delay today, Monday January 23, 2023.
We are so proud of our spellers! Ayla, Addison, Nakian, Clara Mae and Ramon - congratulations on all of your hard work to prepare for this contest!
Addison placed in the top 15 at the bee and qualified for the Tri-County Spelling at Mid-Ohio ESC on February 9, at 6:30 pm. Best of luck in the next round, Addison!
At January’s meeting, the Board of Education honored four students who have consistently demonstrated the Profile of a Tiger trait, Empathetic. Being empathetic is more than simply agreeing with someone—it’s about understanding and respecting their point of view, even if you don’t necessarily share it. It involves putting oneself in another person’s shoes to gain insight into their feelings and being supportive despite differences. These exemplary learners: Avery - 2nd grade; Rylee - 4th grade; Gavin - 6th grade and Sommar - 12th grade, were recognized for demonstrating this essential life skill! Good work, Tigers!
Today we honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and his unwavering dedication towards justice, equality, and peace in our society.
Galion City Schools is proud to announce the installation of the cutting-edge Centegix Education Crisis Alert System! This revolutionary system allows staff to rapidly alert administrators and first responders in an emergency. We are proud to be the first among Ohio school districts to implement this technology, providing additional safety for our students as they return to the classroom.
As we embark on a new school year, Galion Tigers remain committed to upholding the Profile of a Tiger—our roadmap for success. This set of values is purposeful: they guide us within the district walls and beyond them to produce successful graduates ready for their next steps.
This month, we are emphasizing the importance of empathy in and out of the classroom with all Galion students. We strive to foster these essential traits not only this month but every single day throughout their education journey. Let’s explore what it means to be empathetic together!
Galion Tigers are compassionate. They strive to comprehend and respect the perspectives of those around them while still showing support even when they don’t entirely agree with the other party. These individuals seek to put themselves in someone else’s shoes and show empathy for all views expressed.
January kicks off School Board Appreciation Month! This month is an opportunity to recognize the important work our school board has done and will continue to do. President Grant Garverick, Vice President Mike Mateer, Laura Johnson, Dennis Long, and Melissa Miller—thank you for your commitment and dedication to our schools and students.
We are back for day two following winter break! As we begin the spring semester, we are looking forward to what 2023 will bring.
Happy New Year, Tigers!
