#TBT to warmer weather!
Over the summer, the GPS and GIS special education teams hosted a picnic for students and their families to enjoy the newly established inclusive playground. It is safe to say it was a hit!
Don’t forget classes resume on Jan. 3, 2023.
In an effort to highlight the positive actions of our students, Galion Intermediate School teachers have been challenged to make 100 positive phone calls. Each time a positive phone call is made, they write their name on the grid. Once the grid is filled, the grade level teachers with the most squares will receive a free lunch!
The Board recognized four students who have consistently demonstrated the Profile of a Tiger trait, Involved, throughout the month of December. The Involved trait calls for students to display a passion for the community's success through active engagement in service opportunities and for them to seek ways to participate in school-related activities to develop a sense of Galion Pride. The students recognized are Korbin - Kindergarten; Paul - 5th grade; Rhiley - 8th grade and Wyatt - 11th grade. Way to go, Tigers!
The GIS Student Lighthouse Team hosted a holiday door decorating contest! Six local business owners judged the student-led design projects, offering the winning classroom a sweet surprise (a Jean's Day in January)!
Door Decorations were judged on multiple different criteria: creativity, incorporation of holiday themes, neatness of design and detail, evidence of time, effort, and teamwork, the use of a variety of elements and best use of space. There were many impressive designs; however, Mrs. Jaime Valentine's class took the win! Mrs. Laurie Smith's class won second place, and Mrs. Kim Garver's class placed third in the contest. Congratulations to all participants!
In November, Galion High School launched a before-and after-school program called “ROAR” (an acronym that stands for Resources, Opportunities, Achievement and Readiness), which focuses on providing academic support in Math and Language Arts. In addition, through ROAR, high school students can participate in Galion’s existing work-study programs and the newly established Carpentry Skills Program.
Recently, high school students participating in the Carpentry Skills Program worked together with students in the high school woodworking class to design and construct checkerboards and carved boxes to hold the checkers. The finished products are being loaned to the middle school ROAR students for use in their Logic Games sessions during the remainder of this year’s program.
Galion’s First Team All-Ohio student-athletes were recognized at Tuesdays board meeting for thor superior athletic season. Congratulations Ella, Landon and Landon! Go Tigers!
Wishing you all a safe, restful and happy winter break!
Galion High School government classes took a trip to the Ohio Supreme Court yesterday! This field trip gave these juniors and seniors an opportunity to see and understand the work of their elected officials in real-life application. These students have focused on studying the U.S. Government as well as the State of Ohio Government and some Supreme Court Cases throughout the fall semester.
Friendly reminder, Tigers! December 16 is the last day of school before winter break. It is also a two-hour early release day.
Yesterday, Galion Intermediate School kicked off holiday spirit week with "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch," and everyone wore green!
This week Galion Primary School celebrated Safety Week. Each day focused on raising awareness in different areas, including police, fire and online safety. The students also had the opportunity to learn from health professionals about dental health, poison control and medicine safety. On Friday, students met with school counselors and the district social worker for a lesson on managing emotions.

Today is International Volunteer Day! Thank you to all of the volunteers who help make Galion City Schools great.
Special Education Day is celebrated to commemorate the signing of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) into law in 1975. IDEA granted children with special needs access to free and quality public education.
We are so grateful to all of the educators who continue to provide our students with a meaningful, safe and supportive learning experience.
This school year, we will remain focused on what it means to be a Galion Tiger with our newly established Profile of a Tiger. This Profile is a roadmap guiding our district to what we consider to be successful Galion graduates. These values should extend beyond our hallways, classrooms and arenas of competition.
Each month, we will focus on a specific trait in and outside of the classroom, continuing to develop these skills and traits in each and every Galion student. In December, we are discussing what it means to be involved.
A Galion Tiger is involved. They display a passion for success within the community through active engagement in service opportunities while also participating in school-related activities to cultivate a sense of Galion Pride.
Galion City Schools purchased new technology in 2022 to provide interactive learning opportunities for Galion students. The new technology, ActiveFloors, reinforces academics in all subject areas while allowing children to get out of their chairs and move.
Through a 21st Century Learning Communities Grant, the district has purchased four mobile ActiveFloor units. The Active Floor Units include a mobile box containing a projector, computer, and camera that tracks movement. A white vinyl floor mat is used for maximum visual display of the games. The mat and unit can be moved, allowing any floor space to be used as an interactive, instructional playground - stimulating movement and competition while students learn.
Students at Galion Primary, Intermediate and Middle Schools now have access to this multi-sensory tool during their technology and physical education lessons. The ROAR program, the district’s before and after school program, has trained its staff and begun to use the mobile units to provide this immersive educational technology as well.
We have a small surplus of GHS 2022 Spy Yearbooks available for sale to the public. The cost is $49.00 each. There is a limited amount, so it is on a First Come First Serve basis. Last week, Galion Intermediate School staff shared a Thanksgiving feast. Staff members were challenged to show how thankful they are for their co-workers winning small prizes for participating, such as jeans day passes, helping hand coupons, PJ Day prizes and movie passes. We are so grateful for all of our GIS staff!
In honor of Veterans Day, fourth grade students worked together to create a collage celebrating and thanking our veterans.
